Day Drive in Deep River

Fall is my favorite time of year. Fall is also probably why I love New England so much.
Deep River... (think Mothers of Invention in Uncle Meat... all together now...) "A Nice Place to Raise Your Kids!!!)

A Nice Place to Raise Your Kids -

Connecticut River Rover/A Connecticut River Toast

So, I decide to enter a songwriting contest about The Connecticut River. The song is a variation of an Irish song I wrote some years ago and was an opportunity for me to play with the Jones' again. We recorded the song (on old-school cassette) but didn't win. Oh well... not sure I was expecting us to win... just looking to have a good time... which I did...

The Connecticut River Rover/Connecticut River Toast
– Performed by Irish Jones - June 2008

Connecticut River Toast/Chantey:

May your life be sure and steady as the Connecticut River
May your needs be filled with plenty – like a basket at the Brattelboro Farmers Market
May your journeys be adventurous – like a hiker at The Connecticut River Greenway
May your challenges be filled with rewards - like a rafter on the Hartland Rapids
May your accomplishments be grand – like a production at the Goodspeed Opera House
And May you always be blessed by good friends and a loving family

The Connecticut River Rover - by Irish Jones

Goodbye stress and deadlines
Goodbye mortgage and car
The next time that you see me
I’ll be a Connecticut River Rover
Fishing along the river by day
Dining with a pint at night
Living the good life on my little boat
I’m a Connecticut River Rover
a Connecticut River Rover

Sure I’ll miss my friends and family
They’ll all come and see me
We’ll hang out with the college crowd
Up in Springfield, Mass
Or take in dinner with my new friends
Down on Saybrook Point
We’ll reminisce about the good times
I’m a Connecticut River Rover
a Connecticut River Rover

You can find me birding and fishing
Down on Bellow Falls
Or taking photos and sketching sights
On the Woodsville Bridge
ride my canoe at Sunderland
And spend a slow, rolling day
Hanging at the River Greenway
I’m a Connecticut River Rover
a Connecticut River Rover

I’ll be loving life as a River Rover
When next you lay your eyes on me
I’ll camp and hike on Selden Island
away from the news of the world
And if beauty is truth and truth is beauty
Just like John Keats said
I’ll discover both on the Connecticut River
I’m a Connecticut River Rover
a Connecticut River Rover

Tommy from Uncle Monk

How does a bluegrass band have punk sensibility? That's Tommy Ramone on mandoline and vocals! The band is Uncle Monk - very entertaining... a fun band... but don't expect them to play any Ramones stuff! Worth a listen!
